I managed to use that flawed technique to buy a few of my favorite titles, but also got a few clunkers. Great art = great game, right? Not always. ![]() Without online reviews or info, buying video games was nearly a form of gambling as to how good the actual game was compared with it's artwork. He also tells a good story about himself and process.īack in the Power Blade era, before everything was readily available online, I'd spend hours in Toys R Us browsing the NES box covers trying to discern which game was best. Check out this campaign as you can get the Power Blade print in several formats including a slick limited edition version including the box art and reference photo. He had a pretty cool technique for creating models to get the right poses for his gaming projects and he'll take you through the process as he re-creates the Power Blade cover. The game came out in North America in 1991 and I found it to live up to the great artwork that sold me on the purchase. You can get a print of the cover art along with a behind-the-scenes about the cover's creation. Right now he has a Power Blade print Kickstarter campaign. ![]() Those include covers for Might and Magic Clouds of Xeen and Darkside of Xeen, Wing Commander, Solstice, Wolfchild and Power Blade among others. ![]() If you don't know his work, you may have one of Mike's creations on the cover of your favorite video game! Mike Winterbauer has created many covers for iconic video games from the 80s and 90s. ![]()
